Your first 918KISS session, step by step
A first session is for learning how a game behaves, not for winning back the cost of a night out. See it that way and every decision below gets easier.
Before you open a game
Settle three things while you are still in the lobby:
- Your budget. The amount you are comfortable spending on entertainment today, never money meant for bills or savings. The last section of this guide shows how to turn it into a bet size.
- Your stop time. Set an alarm on your phone. Slots have no natural pause between rounds, so time slips past faster than you expect.
- Your plan for a win. Decide now what happens if your balance goes up, for example that you stop and withdraw once it reaches a figure you choose in advance. Decisions made mid-session, after a good or bad run, are rarely the ones you would have made beforehand.
If you would like a firmer line, ask live support to set a deposit or session limit on your account.
Pick a simple game to learn on
Open 918KISS from the slots lobby in your TPOWER account; on your phone, the app from our download page opens the same lobby. For your first session, choose a classic three-reel game or a video slot with a short paytable, and leave the fishing games for later. With fewer symbols and features, you can see exactly why each spin paid or did not.
Find your way around the screen
Before you spin, locate five things: your balance, the bet (per line, per spin, or both), the number of lines if it can be changed, the win display and the information button. Some games show amounts as credits or coins rather than ringgit. If yours does, find out what one coin is worth before you start counting wins.
Play your first spins at the lowest bet
Set the smallest bet the game allows and play a fixed number of spins, say 50, by hand rather than on autoplay. Watch two things: how often something pays, and how big the payments are compared with your bet. That gives you a rough feel for the game's volatility. It tells you nothing about its long-run return, which only shows over a very large number of spins; our guide to slot RTP and volatility explains why.
End the session on your terms
When the alarm rings or the budget is spent, stop, even in the middle of a quiet run that feels as if it must end soon. Nothing obliges it to. If you finish ahead, withdrawals go through the cashier in your account.
How to read a 918KISS paytable
The paytable, behind the information button, is the game's instruction manual. It usually runs over several pages: symbol values, the special symbols, the feature rules and a diagram of every payline.
Symbols and prize values
Most video slots split their symbols into two groups. Low-paying symbols are often card ranks such as A, K, Q, J and 10. High-paying symbols carry the game's theme. Each symbol lists what three, four and five of a kind pay, and some also pay for two.
Worked example: what a prize is really worth
Say a 20-line game lets you bet RM0.05 per line, so one spin costs RM1. The paytable shows 200 for five of the top symbol. What that 200 means depends on how the game quotes prizes:
- As a multiple of the line bet: 200 × RM0.05 = RM10.
- As a multiple of the total bet: 200 × RM1 = RM200.
- As credits: many games redraw the paytable in actual amounts at your current bet, so the numbers change when you change the bet.
The rules page says which convention the game uses. Check it, because the first two readings differ by twenty times.
How line wins are counted
- Symbols pay on an active line, from the leftmost reel, on consecutive reels. Three matches on reels one, two and three pay; three matches on reels two, three and four usually do not.
- Only the highest win on each line is paid.
- Wins on different lines are added together.
- Scatter wins are the exception: they usually pay wherever the symbols land, often as a multiple of the total bet, on top of any line wins.
The payline diagram shows each line's path. On zig-zag lines, symbols that look scattered across the screen can still form a win.
Wins smaller than your bet
Say that same RM1 spin lands three of a low symbol that pays 5 per line: 5 × RM0.05 = RM0.25. The game flashes a win and plays its sound, but the spin cost RM1, so you are RM0.75 down. Counting these as losses, which is what they are, gives you a truer picture of how a session is going.
918KISS slot features, explained
Our 918KISS page introduces wilds, scatters and free spins. Here is how they work in more detail, and what to look for in each game's rules.
Wilds
A wild stands in for other symbols to complete a line, usually for every symbol except the scatter and any bonus symbol. Variations to look out for:
- Stacked wilds fill several positions on a reel at once, completing wins on many lines together.
- Expanding wilds grow to cover the whole reel when they land.
- Multiplier wilds multiply any win they help complete, for example doubling it.
The rules page lists which of these a game uses.
Scatters and free spins
In most video slots, scatters trigger the main feature, typically when three or more land anywhere on the reels. During free spins the reels play at the bet that triggered them, often with something extra: a multiplier on every win, more wilds, or the chance to trigger further free spins.
Some games let you choose the shape of the round, for example many free spins with a small multiplier or a few with a big one. The options are usually designed to be close in average value, so the choice mainly changes the swing: more spins at a low multiplier gives a steadier result, fewer at a high multiplier gives a wider spread of outcomes.
Bonus games
Some features leave the reels for a separate screen, where you pick objects to reveal prizes or spin a wheel. Prizes are normally multiples of the bet that triggered the feature. In most pick games the choices are random from your side, so there is no pattern to learn.
The gamble option
After a win, some games offer a gamble or double-up: guess the colour of a hidden card to double the win, or lose it. A colour guess is roughly a 50-50 call, so it adds swing without adding value. If you decline, the win goes to your balance. If a game has no gamble option, you are not missing anything.
Fishing games vs reels: what changes
The 918KISS fishing games sit in the same lobby as its slots, but they ask different things of you.
- What a round is. A slot round is one spin at a fixed cost. A fishing round is one shot, and the game keeps going for as long as you keep firing.
- What you control. On reels you choose the bet and press spin. In a fishing game you choose the cannon level, which sets the cost of each shot, where to aim and how fast to fire. Many fishing games add auto-fire and a target lock.
- How wins happen. Each target has a payout multiple, usually listed in the info screen, and a shot that catches it pays that multiple times your cost per shot. Your aim decides what a shot hits; whether it catches is decided at random. Bigger multiples come with smaller chances of a catch, and no aiming pattern gets around the game's built-in margin.
- How fast money moves. A slot's pace is set by the spin animation. A fishing game's pace is set by your trigger finger.
That last point matters most for your budget. Say each shot costs 10 sen and you fire twice a second. That is 120 shots, or RM12, a minute: RM720 an hour in stakes. A slot at RM1 a spin and about ten spins a minute stakes RM600 an hour. Whatever comes back, the game's margin works on the total you stake, and in a fishing game you add to that total with every shot.
Habits that help in fishing games:
- Check the cannon level each time you enter a game, as it may not start at the lowest.
- Use auto-fire sparingly, if at all. It keeps firing until you stop it.
- Watch your balance, not just the targets. On a busy screen it is easy to lose track.
Setting a session budget that lasts
A budget only works if it is decided before you play and paired with a bet that fits it.
Turn the budget into a bet size
Decide how many spins your budget should cover even if very little comes back, then divide. Say your budget is RM50 and you want at least 200 spins: RM50 ÷ 200 = RM0.25 a spin. If the game's smallest bet is above that, it is the wrong game for this budget.
Volatility changes the answer. A calm game returns small wins often, so RM50 usually lasts well beyond 200 spins. A volatile game can go a hundred spins with almost nothing, so plan for more spins, which means a smaller bet.
Set a stop point both ways
- A loss limit: the budget itself. When it is gone, the session ends, with no top-ups from your bank account.
- A win point: say your RM50 grows to RM80. Decide in advance that at that point you withdraw at least your original RM50, or stop altogether.
Keep a simple record
Note what you deposited and what you withdrew at the end of each session. Over a month, the difference is what your play actually cost, which is easy to lose sight of when you mostly remember the big wins.
Use the tools
Deposit limits, session limits, breaks and self-exclusion are available through live support, and our responsible gaming page explains each one. For warning signs and where to find help in Malaysia, read responsible gaming in Malaysia. TPOWER is for adults aged 18 and over.
Frequently asked questions
Why did the game show a win when my balance went down?
Because the win was smaller than the cost of the spin. A RM0.25 win on a RM1 spin leaves you RM0.75 down. Slots celebrate every payout, so your balance is the number to watch.
Should I choose more free spins or a bigger multiplier?
In most games the options are designed to be close in average value. More spins at a small multiplier gives a steadier result; fewer spins at a big one gives bigger swings. Choose by taste, not in the hope that one pays more.
Is a fishing game a game of skill?
Your aim decides which target a shot hits, but whether it is caught is decided at random, so quick reactions do not get around the game’s margin. What you really control is the cost per shot and how fast you fire.
How many spins should my first session be?
There is no right number. Choose one your budget covers at the lowest bet, such as 50 to 100 spins, play them by hand and stop. The session is there to show you how the game behaves, not to win back its cost.
